Current Road Conditions--Still Not Ready!
Will Hobson tested the snow conditions on the filing roads on Sunday and unfortunately the snow is still not soft enough to efficiently clear the filing roads.
The weather forecast is calling for warm weather this week so hopefully the snow will start to soften up. Will plans to check conditions again later this week.
4th of July Picnic
The annual Forth of July AVFD picnic will be held Saturday July 5, 2008 this year, make your plans now to attend.
Shutterbugs Calendar
The Shutterbugs Photo Club is working on an Arrowhead calendar as a fund raiser for the club and will be on sale at the July picnic.
AVFD Rescue
AVFD preformed a rescue on April 26, 2008. Doug Cockes was hurt in a snowmobile accident. It was the Cockes’ last ride of the season and Mary had her camera along with her. Mary says, “I certainly did not realize what our "last ride" would entail.”
"Doug's injuries could have been so much worse. Lucky for us, we had been riding for a short time and were only a few miles out. Lucky for Doug, he was not riding alone. Again let me say, our Volunteer Fire Department did an awesome job. The Gunnison EMT's were really impressed by this group of "Hardy Seniors". Doug was in the hospital acute care center for 3 days and then at a rehab center for 3 days. He has a traumatic hip dislocation and will be on crutches for about 6 weeks. Wednesday night he was taken to the ER again because of pain, and x-rays revealed he has rib fractures. I think he aggravated the ribs during his therapy. He had really been pushing himself because he wants a speedy recovery. We feel very blessed. Blessed that the injury does not require surgery and blessed that we live in a wonderful community like Arrowhead."
Friday was "homecoming" day. Thanks to Donny Squirrell and Jerry Bradley and their Ranger, Doug had a safe, smooth ride home. Leonard helped everyone load Doug on the track vehicle and Joyce and Bill, Star and Eric and Denali followed us home. Doug and Mary say, thanks guys! It was a team effort.
THE BLADE IS HERE!
Arrowhead has been waiting for the new blade for the loader to get here to help deal with snow removal. This is a 12 ft. severe duty snow blade with hydraulic cab operated cylinders for angling a blade. Board members have thanked Oscar Ratliff for his diligent work in getting the blade here, as well as helping a master mechanic to mount it on the loader. Will Hobson thinks it will help out a great deal with snow removal in addition to the road grader.
